Independent living in New York
Sit with us first. Then pick the home.
You don't pay. There's no fee.
Independent living is not assisted living
Independent living, sometimes called retirement living, is for seniors who want community, meals, activities, and less home upkeep, without needing dementia care or nursing.
There is no personal care staff built into the rent the way there is in assisted living. If your parent needs help with bathing, dressing, or medications, assisted living or memory care is the honest conversation.
How we help
- Sit with the family. Care type, county or borough, budget band in your own words, and urgency. No invented numbers from us.
- Shortlist licensed private-pay options that fit what you told us.
- You get the written shortlist. You visit when ready, and we can come along if you ask.
- Follow through after your visits. Move in is between your family and the community.
Immediate need or planning ahead
Immediate need means a hospital or rehab discharge this week, wandering, night safety worries, or a caregiver at the end of the rope. Call (201) 686-8232.
Planning ahead means the next 30 to 90 days. Use the form and mark Planning ahead, and we work at a calmer pace.

- Assisted living includes staff support with daily activities. Independent living does not. If care needs grow, we help you look at assisted living or memory care.
- Can we bring in home care?
- Many families do, through a licensed private-pay agency. Ask the community what it allows.
- What does it cost?
- Communities set their own rents and fees. We do not publish a figure. Ask each community, and we help compare on a call.
