Memory care placement in plain words
Memory care is a licensed setting built for someone living with dementia or Alzheimer's who needs secured space, trained staff, and a day that follows a predictable shape. Placement is the work of finding the one that fits your parent, not the one with the best brochure. For background, see our overview of New Jersey memory care.
We sit with your family first and listen to what nights look like, whether there is wandering, what medications are involved, and what the family can carry each month. Then we send licensed private-pay New Jersey options in writing.
You don't pay. There's no fee. Book a free call with us, or call (201) 686-8232 if the need is today.
What separates memory care from assisted living
- Secured entries, elevators, and outdoor space, so a resident cannot leave unnoticed.
- Staff trained for dementia behavior, not only for help with bathing and dressing.
- Activities designed around memory loss rather than a general activity calendar.
- Higher staffing at night, which is usually the hardest part of the day for families.
What to ask on a memory care tour
- Who is awake overnight in the memory care neighborhood, and how many of them.
- What the exit and wandering protocol is, step by step.
- Who administers medication, and what happens after a refusal.
- What the base monthly fee does not cover, including care levels and incontinence supplies.
- How the team reaches family after a fall or a hard night.
- Whether a respite or trial stay is offered.
Cost honesty on memory care
Communities set their own memory care rates. There is no official statewide memory care median that we will publish, and we will not reuse assisted living survey figures as if they described memory care.
Ask each community for a current written quote. On the call we help you line the quotes up side by side.
We do not publish openings, bed counts, ratings, or review scores on this page. Openings change week to week, so we ask each community with you on the call.

Frequently asked questions
- How do we know it is time for memory care?
- Families usually notice night waking, wandering, missed medication, or a caregiver who cannot keep going. Talk to the doctor about the medical picture. We help with the housing side, not the diagnosis.
- Do families pay you?
- You don't pay. There's no fee. A community may pay us a professional referral fee after a successful private-pay move in. We do not take a fee on Medicaid or Medicare funded placements.
- Do you publish which communities have openings?
- No. Openings change weekly, so we call with you rather than post numbers that would be wrong by the time you read them.
- Can a parent move from assisted living into memory care later?
- Many communities offer both and can move a resident internally. Ask each one how that decision is made and what it changes on the bill.
