Assisted living in New York
Sit with us first. Then pick the home.
You don't pay. There's no fee.
Honest labeling first
New York official directories include assisted living plus personal care and adult care homes that are not identical to New Jersey style assisted living. We keep those labels as the state publishes them.
We sit with your family, explain what each label means for your parent, then send private-pay options in writing.
How we help
- Sit with the family. Care type, county or borough, budget band in your own words, and urgency. No invented numbers from us.
- Shortlist licensed private-pay options that fit what you told us.
- You get the written shortlist. You visit when ready, and we can come along if you ask.
- Follow through after your visits. Move in is between your family and the community.
Assisted living by county and borough
Each county page lists the licensed names, addresses, and license numbers from the official state file: the Bronx, Dutchess, Brooklyn (Kings), Nassau, Manhattan (New York County), Orange, Queens, Staten Island (Richmond), Rockland, Suffolk, Westchester.
Immediate need or planning ahead
Immediate need means a hospital or rehab discharge this week, wandering, night safety worries, or a caregiver at the end of the rope. Call (201) 686-8232.
Planning ahead means the next 30 to 90 days. Use the form and mark Planning ahead, and we work at a calmer pace.
Areas families ask about
Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island, plus White Plains, Scarsdale, and Yonkers.
Families who live in both states often compare New York City options with Bergen County, New Jersey.
What to ask on a tour
- Night staffing. Who is awake, how many, and what happens at 3 a.m.
- Wandering and exit protocol, if that is a worry.
- Medication support and who administers it.
- What is not in the monthly fee. Care levels, incontinence supplies, transportation.
- Family visits, meals with your parent, and holidays.
- Trial stay or respite, if the community offers one.
Cost honesty
We do not publish a New York assisted living median, because we will not invent one. For national context only, the CareScout 2025 survey national assisted living median was $6,200 a month. That is a national figure, not a New York figure.
Ask each community for a current quote.
Communities and agencies
If you run admissions, business development, or a licensed home care office, we would like to know your setup. Call (201) 686-8232 or use the partner page. We do not publish your rates and we do not promise census.

Frequently asked questions
- Is New York assisted living the same as New Jersey assisted living?
- No. New York uses adult care and personal care categories alongside assisted living, with different rules. We explain the difference instead of relabeling.
- What does assisted living cost in New York?
- We do not publish a New York median. For national context only, the CareScout 2025 national assisted living median was $6,200 a month. Ask each community for a current quote.
- Can you help if my parent is in New York and I live elsewhere?
- Yes. Most of the families we sit with are adult children out of the area. See the travel for care page for planning a visit.
- Do families pay you?
- You don't pay. There's no fee. A community may pay us a professional referral fee after a successful private-pay move in. We do not take a fee on Medicaid or Medicare funded placements.
